MY FAMILY

                                         MY FAMILY

1. I'd take a photo album so that my children and future family could see where they came from, what previous family members looked like and so they would have a sense of culture/ethnicity.

2. The second item I would bring is all of our birth certificates again this would be information in regards to future family members having a sense of belonging, ethnicity, and background.

3. My final item would be a bible that my parents gave me when I was 13. The bible represents me being raised in a very strict religious, church family, where both my grandfather's were Pastor's. It has a lot to do with who I am today, my parenting style, and why some things are VERY important to me.

If  I was told to keep one item I'd have to say I'd chose the photo album, pictures say a 1000 words, and  it's visual proof of who we are, where we came from, what we look like etc. Because the other two items are very personal I'd feel sad, wonder if I made the correct choice, and may even second guess myself.

Insights that I have gained is the importance of family, culture/ethnicity, the sense of self and my FAMILY roots.

  1. Hi Tinka,
I really never thought of birth certificates, I remember in a previous class about poverty that is the one thing they were trying to get parents to do is register their children so they can become part of the community. You are so write that a pictures worth a 1000 words!
    Great post.

  2. Hi Tinka,
I like how you thought of future generations. It is important to think of our history continuing into the future.
