Birthing Experience

Hi All,
Being that I gave birth to 2 children it's difficult for me to choose one over the other. When giving birth to my oldest daughter it was scary yet exciting because this was something that was so new for me. I was so happy to meet my princess, but was terrified of the pain I'd have to endure. To my surprise it wasn't as painful as I imagined it would be. As the contractions begin to get more intense I was given a shot of demerol. Immediately I no longer had the pain but now I was groggy, even sleeping between contractions. Overall it took 12 hours of labor, the nurse even had to break my water but it was all worth meeting My little Tinka.
My second birthing experience was much different I went in to the hospital at 8:00a.m. and gave birth at 4:00p.m. It all happened very fast once my water broke, I dialated from 3 to 7 in 20 minutes, because of this I was not allowed to take any kind of medicine. This time I was awake and feeling every little bit of pain. This experience was much more painful but I remember everything so I'm thankful for this. I was also thankful with my second birth for not taking any pain meds. because of this I was able to remember, where with my first daughter everything was cloudy.

I choose these both because their my experiences and they're first hand experiences.  I guess from the day I gave birth to each of my daughter's I should've known that each girl would be completely different.

My thoughts about birth and its impact on child development would be from the time a child is born, we need to realize that babies are little people with feelings and that everything we do affects them. As parents, caregivers, teacher's, advocates, child psychologists, and even peditricians we need to realize when a child is born, it's important that we give them the best care possible with an environment that promotes learning. Everytime a baby is born our future is being impacted.
