Personal Childhood Web

Hi Everyone,
Before beginning my childhood web I'm going to briefly describe my childhood. I'm a hispanic female born in the early 70's into a family where both of my grandfather's were Minister's. I'm the eldest child, with one younger sister. I was born in Kentucky, but have lived in Stockton California for the past 36 years.

The five most important people in my life growing up were:
  1. my mother-I can still remember us sitting in bed together watching the little Rasquel's, in black and white, when we're waiting for my dad to come home from work. I also remember her and I playing dolls and barbie's together when I was 3. Every time I was sick she'd sit with me until I felt well again. My mom made me feel special, loved and secure. Because she was such a great mother, I'm always striving to be half the mother she was. She was the nurturer, as I got into my teen years we had a good line of communication and would hang out a lot.
  2. my dad- He always has been man of very few words. I feel his biggest influence on me was his work ethic. Even as a young father my dad was always a hard worker, provider and made sure his family was well taken care of.
  3. my grandma-She was very stern but I knew I was loved. My cousins, sister, and I would play outside and for some reason, we were always in trouble. (LOL). My grandma was a great woman of God, she was always reading her bible, singing in church and at home would always be cooking. She would rarely tell us "I love you", but her way of showing us, was cooking or baking together. I feel I'm a strong woman like my grandma was.
  4. my grandpa-He had such a big influence on my life and even though he is passed, still does. I can remember being 3 or 4 and sitting on his lap and he'd point to my nose, mouth, eyes, etc. and I'd tell him in spanish what they were. He was the kindest, super hard working, and non-judgemental man I know. He was a preacher for more than 50 years, he was the kind of person who would not preach and preach to people, but show by the kind of person he was. Without a doubt I knew my grandpa loved me, he'd always hug me, pinch my cheek, and tell me "te amo". ( I love you).
  5. my 12th grade english teacher-Because I was so lucky to be in her class, I too became a teacher. Ms. Biasetti had such a calm, relaxed persona about her. Every time we had an assignment she had many examples, pre-writings, and would go above and beyond to make sure we were successful. I remember after school she'd take additional time to work with any students that were struggling.

Because of the people who influenced me as a child I am the person I am today. I'm striving to be a nurturing mother as my mom, am a hard worker like my dad, strong-willed like my grandma, kind like my grandpa, and because of my teacher, I teach also.

  1. Sounds like you had a wonderful nurturing family. I can relate to you becuase I too had a grandfather who was a good Christian and led by example instead of constant preaching. My grandpa, however, did not become a part of my life until I was beginning adolescence and my mother and I married into that family. I differ from you because I did not have the supportive relationships that you had with those people closest to you. This caused me to be a very cautious person around others and at times in my early years I allowed people to push me around and victimize me (this victim attribute changes as I grew into adulthood). I often longed to have a family similar to yours, but I feel you and I have both probably learned very valuable lessons from the families we lived in.
